Platform for International Cooperation on Undocumented Migrants: A worker is a worker – Leaflet promoting trade union inclusion of undocumented workers available in 21 languages

On the occasion of International Workers’ Day, the Platform for International Cooperation on Undocumented Migrants (PICUM) and the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) issue their leaflet supporting trade unions to promote undocumented workers’ rights in 20 more languages.

In addition to the original English version, the leaflet is now also available in the following languages: Arabic, Bulgarian, Croatian, Czech, Dutch, Estonian, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish and Turkish.

Undocumented workers across Europe are performing vital jobs but are systematically exploited by employers. They are frequently paid below the minimum wage, paid late or subject to wage theft. They are required to work very long hours, without adequate breaks, overtime, holiday or sick leave, or other basic social security. They are often not provided with necessary safety equipment and training, making them at greater risk of injuries, accidents and occupational illnesses, while also having very limited access to health services.

Undocumented workers often do not report exploitation and abuse due to the risk of being arrested. Exploiting employers, on the contrary, often go unpunished.

The leaflet aims to support trade unions in their efforts to speak up for and organise undocumented workers, and can be easily printed in an A4-format and folded or shared electronically.
