Social Platform has a new full member

At our extraodinary General Assembly on October 03, 2013 IUT (the International Union of Tenants liaison office to the EU) became a full member of Social Platform.

The IUT’s EU liaison office has been established in Brussels to voice tenants’ concerns at EU level. It represents 28 tenants associations from 21 EU countries. IUT Brussels promotes the right to decent and affordable housing for all, as a precondition for the enjoyment of other rights. As housing is one of the main components of households’ expenditure, it is necessary to ensure its affordability. This is key to prevent or combat poverty across the EU and increase households’ purchasing power. The IUT Brussels argues for better housing standards across the EU, by way of stricter regulation and controls as well as through public funding for home improvements. The IUT promotes energy efficiency in buildings as a way to reduce fuel poverty.
