European Association for the Education of Adults: OED Network presents tools to overcome the barriers to learning

Participation in adult learning is still low in many European countries, especially among low-skilled and/or disadvantaged groups. The Outreach-Empowerment-Diversity (OED) network concentrates on increasing inclusion and fostering diversity in adult education. The Network has now published concrete suggestions and recommendations on how to reach under-represented groups and empower them through the learning process.

The OED network believes that adult learning has benefits on all levels. According to a recent European study on self-reported benefits of Lifelong learning, adult education makes people happier, healthier and more self-confident. Learners participate more in society, tend to be more tolerant and be better parents. Benefits are more prominent for disadvantaged groups. Therefore the OED network calls for particular actions in this field.
