AGE Platform Europe on International Day of Older Persons

October 1 – International Day of Older Persons: European cities and regions take a step forward to better meet the needs of their older residents

On the occasion of the International Day of Older Persons, AFE-INNOVNET, a thematic network on innovation for age-friendly environments, officially applies to become the EU affiliated programme of the WHO’s Global Network of Age-Friendly Cities and Communities. This was announced today during a ceremony at the City Hall in Brussels.

“Leaving No One Behind: Promoting a Society for All” is the topic of this year’s International Day of Older Persons and the theme fits well with AFE-INNOVNET’s objective to work together with cities and regions across the EU to find smart solutions to support active and healthy ageing and develop age-friendly environments.

The International Day of Older Persons is the right moment to recall the importance of promoting and implementing innovative solutions to address the challenges posed by  population ageing and to underline the need to create a society which is fair and sustainable for all generations”, said Anne-Sophie Parent, Secretary General of AGE Platform Europe and coordinator of AFE-INNOVNET network.
