Statement following meeting with Cabinet of European Commission Executive Vice-President Frans Timmermans

Social Platform statement following meeting with Cabinet of European Commission Executive Vice-President Frans Timmermans, 19 February 2020

“Following our meeting today with the Cabinet of European Commission Executive Vice-President Frans Timmermans, we reiterate our call for a long-term social and sustainable strategy that integrates the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the European Green Deal and the European Pillar of Social Rights.

“The EU will only succeed in creating a more sustainable Europe if it puts social inclusion at the heart of its policies. The European Green Deal is no exception, and must be as inclusive as possible: for example, the Just Transition Fund should contribute to reducing energy poverty.

“Social Platform’s network of 47 members represent tens of thousands of local and national NGOs working directly with people in vulnerable situations whose voices are rarely heard in EU-level decision-making, and as such are in an ideal position to support the Commission in developing a European Green Deal that leaves no one behind.”
