The Salvation Army EU Affairs Office: New advisory statement on Roma inclusion

The Salvation Army EU Affairs Office is pleased to publish its new advisory statement on Roma inclusion. This has been drafted with wide participation from within The Salvation Army, including Roma and those who are actively involved with Roma communities. The paper focuses on Roma issues in Europe as this statement is needed for the advocacy work of the EU Affairs Office. It also helps to provide a cohesive reflection on the mission and ministry with Roma. The Salvation Army EU Affairs Office hopes that this could also be a resource to empower Roma to take part and influence the mission, ministry and services in their community.

The EU Affairs Office recommends that The Salvation Army use this document to:

  • Start/ continue internal discussions (with Roma) nationally and locally about how to work with Roma communities.
  • Reflect on the ‘practical responses’ part.
  • Use the Bible references as a reminder to pray with/for Roma.
  • Consider how to communicate its Roma work to local authorities or partners/NGOs etc; and potentially develop advocacy work.
